Yesterday I went to see Matthew West live and in concert. I remember when he walked out onto the stage, I was shouting at my sister,
"It's him! It's Matthew West!! In person!!" ...or something to that effect XD. He started out wih a medley of "I Love You More," "I Can't Hear You," "Happy," and then finally "You Know Where to Find Me."
His singing was great, his dancing was great (I didn't know he danced!! O_o) and the music was great! I was smiling the whole time he was on stage. I couldn't stop... it was so weird! (Plus,
I told myself that maybe if I smiled enough he would notice me... XD) Just when I thought I was smiling hard enough, he pointed at my sister and me, and I smiled so hard I felt like my jaw
was gonna break! We were so lucky to have sat in the front row... and it's not like wearing a bright pink shirt in a dark room didn't help...
After the medley, he told us a story about his poor poor wife and how she cried herself to sleep each night because there was no Friendly's ice cream store. And to make it better, Matthew West made up a song on the spot about it. It was HILARIOUS. And then he called us crazy (I shouted WOOOOT at that O_o).
Later he talked to the crowd about his new CD and his vocal chord surgery. It always seems like something bad happens to Matthew West before
he comes out with a new album. But God always speaks to him during those troubled times, and that influences his music a lot. Anyway, he told us
he was going to sing a song that the band didn't even know about (at this point the guitarist acted as if this idea was crazy), but he continued
on and everything went beautifully. The new song will be out on his album January 8th.
His portion of the concert ended with "You are Everything," "I Know You're There" (hinthint next layout), "Next Thing You Know," and "Only Grace." My dad and I both agreed that the whole
performance was amazing and neither of us were disappointed.
After the intermission, it was Mandisa's turn to sing. She did a great job and sang all her notes beautifully. I recognized a lot of her songs from the music we play at my church, including "Lord You are Good," "Our God is an Awesome God," and "It Makes Me Want to Shout."
When the concert finally ended, we waited outside for a Matthew West/Mandisa signing. My sister and I passed the time by fake singing Matthew West songs. It was so fun. Pretty soon, we were standing inside the same room with him. I was so nervous. For the last two weeks, I had been thinking of what I was going to say to him when and if I met him. I've done so many Matthew West related things... even more then what you see on my website (LOL). Finally we came up to him. I probably looked so dorky... smiling the whole time. While I was telling him how to spell my name, he said that he recognized me from the front row. So he HAD pointed at my sister and me! I was kind of nervous, so my dad told him about my website, and he even said he would come visit! Now, I know he's a very busy person what with all the tours and performances and whatnot, but still... that would be SO COOL if he did come. So now I have to get that new shiny layout that I promised you guys up in a jiffy. Mainly because I'm bored of this one and that one features one of his songs from History XD. Then, me being my nerdy self, I told him that I ran a race one day listening to one of his songs. Well, a fake-race, but it was still a timed 3-mile with competitors. My dad also told him about how we played his music in church and how he was such an inspiration to us. He said he appreciated it. So finally, after he signed our shirts and new CD, we said goodbye. And Mandisa was great too! That was the best concert EVER!!!!!!
So that was my great experience with Matthew West and Mandisa. If you've managed to read down this far, then you must have a lot of time on your hands... XD Just kidding. So if anyone is planning on going to a
Matthew West/Mandisa concert (they like to perform together), the above is what you can expect. I think I'll make this whole post a new section on my site somewhere... like a review section or something.
Anyway here's my shout out to Matthew West if he comes along one day. I hope he does!! And I'll get working on that new layout! It's a 3-day weekend you know. =)
