Karate Kitty: If you wish to pet my magic fur and learn how to make an avatar, please read on.
DON'T TOUCH, IT'S WET!
"An avatar is basically a picture representing you," Karate Kitty meows, licking his fur. "All you really have to do is take a picture of anything (preferablly something you've drawn and draw all over it. Neatly, of course."
"Uh..." I say, "you missed a spot!"
"Huh?! Where?!" Karate Kitty says, searching his fur.
"We will be using this picture for this tutorial:

OPTIONAL: You can adjust the lighting or edit the picture just so it's less foggy, depending on what program you're using. I changed the layer to soft light on photoshop elements.

OPTIONAL: You can use the Simple Pencil Tutorial and add some color to your picture.

Next, take a 10px pencil and go around your border with gray. I used #A5A4A6.

Then take an 8 brush and go around the border of the picture. It depends on your picture which color you use.

Use a 5px brush and go around the border with black.

The next step is to take a 3px brush and go around the border with a color gray like #77767C.

Take either a white pencil or a black pencil (depending on what color your layout is) and a set it to 1px. Go around the border.

For this step, black or white, or whatever color is fine. Take a 6px pencil and go down the middle of the picture, not touching any borders. Go across the top of the line (leaving a few pixels up top) and don't touch any borders. Then use a 3px pencil and make parallel lines for both of them.

Gathering Chi: Now's time for text. Usually plain simple text is the best for this, but if you have avatar text or fancy text, go ahead and place it!

There's plenty more you can do to your avatar, such as more parallel lines or more penciling. But this is pretty decent wouldn't you say? Now all that you have left is resizing your picture to fit your layout."
"Hey! What did you do to my face?!" Karate kitty screeches at me.
"Uh... I... made you a present?" I hint suggestively. I scoot the avatar towards Karate Kitty, who sniffs it.
"It's disturbing... but I'll take it as a gift of your LOVE."
"Not as disturbing as the mice you leave at the door..." I mutter.
MEOW MEOW!!!
