How to Make Links

"What are links?" you ask to me.

"Links are..." I begin, but Karate Kitty interrupts me.

"Link is that guy from Zelda!"

"No he's not! I thought his name was Zelda...uh..."

"Well, Link is a pretty cool name! Who knew you could name a guy after a button that leads you to different pages and sites!"

"Yeah, that's it! A link is what he said!" I say with relief. "If you want to put a link on a page, first you need an URL. An URL is an address that you put in the address bar. Such as:

http://www.jezrehiah.com

The coding for a link is such:

<a href="YOUR URL HERE">THIS IS WHERE YOU TYPE THE NAME OF THE LINK</a href>

This is what a link looks like using the above coding:

THIS IS WHERE YOU TYPE THE NAME OF THE LINK

If you want to use a picture instead, place the picture code where it says THIS IS WHERE etc. Take the image coding tutorial to learn how to code images. The coding of a linked picture is:

<a href="YOUR URL HERE"><img src="YOUR IMAGE URL HERE" border="0"></a href>

Now say you want to open another window when the visitor clicks the link. (This is to keep them on your site when they go somewhere else.) If you don't know what I'm talking about, click here. See? A new window, and you're still on my site. The coding for that is:

<a href="YOUR URL HERE" target="_blank">Link name</a href>

You can also describe links. Hover over this link to read the description. If you want to describe links, use this code:

<a href="YOUR URL HERE" title="YOUR DESCRIPTION HERE">Link name</a href>

All combined it is:

<a href="YOUR URL HERE" target="_blank" title="YOUR DESCRIPTION HERE">Link name</a href>

There are many special effects you can add to links (also known as hyperlinks), but that is for CSS and this is just a simple HTML tutorial. Good luck!"
